Our STATE Bird

Inspiration struck in March 2024 to design bird themed fan art to celebrate my alma mater. While the Northern Cardinal as a state bird is not exclusive to North Carolina, I think his red plumage is a sign.

My original colored pencil drawing features a cardinal atop one of the “Woven Bronze” wolf sculptures by San Diego based artist, Michael Stutz, found on NC State’s campus.

When later converting the drawing to prints and acrylic blocks for friends and family, I essentially recreated the drawing a second time digitally to ensure the colors came out their best IRL.
